What BTCL requires
Unlike a .com, a .bd domain is not instant. BTCL manually reviews every application. You will need:
- For a company: trade licence copy, application on company letterhead, and the applicant's NID.
- For an individual: NID copy and a signed application.
- A working email address that matches the applicant.
Minimum registration period
Two years. There is no one-year option. Budget accordingly.
How long approval takes
Officially 2–3 working days. In practice, a clean application with matching documents is usually approved within 48 hours. Applications get rejected most often because the name on the trade licence does not match the name on the application, or the letterhead is missing a signature.
Should you buy .com.bd or .com?
Buy both if you can. Use the .com as your primary and redirect the .com.bd to it — or the reverse if your customers are entirely local. The .com.bd signals a genuine Bangladeshi business, which measurably raises trust for e-commerce.
