Registering a .com.bd domain: documents and timeline

Why .com.bd is different

.com.bd and .bd are operated by BTCL, not by an international registry. There is no instant API — every application is reviewed by a human, so registration takes days rather than seconds.

Documents you must provide

For a company:

• Trade licence (scanned copy, valid)
• TIN certificate
• Company pad or letterhead with the application
• National ID of the authorised person

For an individual:

• National ID (both sides)
• A passport-size photograph
• A written application on plain paper

The timeline

The mistakes that get applications rejected

• The trade licence has expired.
• The name on the NID does not match the name on the application.
• The requested domain is a trademark you do not own.
• Scans are unreadable — photograph documents flat, in daylight, not at an angle.

Renewals

.com.bd renews for 2 years at a time, not 1. Set a reminder well before expiry: BTCL does not always send a warning, and a lapsed .com.bd can be difficult to recover.
